Breeding dogs has been a passion for people through many centuries. Part art, part science, and total devotion, breeding will show you all the best in the human-and-dog bond. It is exciting and challenging.
Breeding purebred and high quality hybrid service dogs is also time consuming, expensive, and, occasionally, heartbreaking. The underlying purpose should be to improve the breed — not just increase its numbers. Breeding a litter begins with knowledge. Responsible breeders devote time to learning as much as they can about their breed, about canine health and training, and about AKC rules. One litter is a full time job. For the first 2 weeks you are up every 2-3 hours with the litter and mother supporting the mother's nutrition and puppy safety. For a full 8 weeks the breeder is responsible for timing every stage of development. This includes food transition, water introduction, medical care, and bird introduction. We time socialization and guide these dogs towards a positive and responsive bonding experience.
